Highly Capable (CHALLENGE Program) Student Referral Form
The Wapato School District's highly capable student program is called the Challenge Program. Washington State defines highly capable students as "students who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared to others of their age, experience, or environments." (WAC 392-170-035)
Highly capable students are not necessarily just those students who perform well in class. A student may perform well in class and not be considered highly capable. Likewise a student who underperforms in class may qualify as highly capable.
Highly capable students typically have thought patterns that differ from their peers. Do you have a student that always gets sarcasm or makes detailed inferences? Those may be traits of a highly capable student.
Students are considered for the District's Challenge Program by receiving a referral from a teacher, staff member or community member using the form found below.
