Plan Approved To Make-Up Snow Days

As temperatures warm up and the piles of snow slowly melt away Wapato Public Schools hope the worst of this winter’s weather is behind us.  As you know the snow has forced the District to cancel school a total of six days.  At its March 11, 2019 regular meeting the School Board approved a plan to make up those days.  The plan includes applying for a State waiver of three days, holding classes on a day in early June that was on the calendar as a no school day and using the two snow make-up days that were already built into the end of the 2018-2019 school year calendar.

The date in early June students will now be in class is Friday the 7th which is Yakama Nation Treaty Day.  The District recognizes that some of our Native families may want their students involved in the cultural events scheduled for that day and it plans to honor those intentions.  However, students taking part will need to provide a note from their parent/guardian in order for it to be counted as an excused absence.  The two snow days that were built into the end of the school year calendar are Thursday, June 13th and Friday, June 14th, which is now the last day of school.

Other changes include the rescheduling of PACE and Wapato High School’s graduation ceremonies.  PACE High School’s graduation will now be Tuesday, June 11th, at 7:00 p.m. in the PACE Gym and Wapato High School’s will take place on Wednesday, June 12th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Yakima Sundome.

Please be aware, the amended calendar may also result in our schools having to reschedule some of their end of the year activities.  If any activities are rescheduled the schools will be informing families well in advance.
